The first stem cells were obtained from an embryo. If cells are obtained from an embryo it results in its destruction and hence it is considered as unethical in some countries. The other important source for getting stem cells is adult tissue such as bone marrow. The cells obtained from adult tissue do not have the same power as those obtained from an embryo.
